GENERAL INFORMATION
This Amazon fishing adventure will take place 250 miles out of Manaus in remote
waters that are tributaries of the Amazon and Rio Negro rivers, which are located
in the middle of the Amazon rain forest. These rivers, which contain numerous
lagoons and an unlimited number of fishing hotspots, are extremely remote and
have very little fishing pressure.
The houseboat will be home for the fishing week. Each day the houseboat will
cruise the river in search of "New" fishing spots. The fishing will
be done from nice 17-ft Aluma-Weld bass boats. Each boat will accommodate two
fishermen and a guide. The air-conditioned cabins on board the houseboat will
be a delight and are welcome around mid-day when the river becomes hot and
humid. However, the mornings and evenings will be very comfortable.
The food will consist of both American and Brazilian cuisine served buffet
style. Ice tea, coke, and local beer will be served. We do recommend that you
bring your own bottle or favorite liquor as only local brands will be available.
The service on board the houseboat is excellent and the staff will treat you
like royalty and go out of their way to make this your most relaxing and enjoyable
trip ever.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please pack your luggage in soft duffle bags. There will be a charter flight
from Manaus into the jungle and space and weight on the plane will be limited
to 50 1bs Please. this 3s a must t Once we have met our weight limitation,
no other bags will be loaded on the plane. No exceptions'
Your clothing should be light weight and light colored. Tarpon wear clothing
is excellent for the Amazon.
You can wear shorts and short-sleeved shirts here without concern for bug bites.
Take some long-sleeved shirts and pants for sun protection along with sunscreen,
and a hat to protect your head and neck, and don't forget your sunglasses.
Also, we recommend that you drink plenty of fluids. Purified drinking water
is available, but we recommend that you bring powdered gator aid and plastic
bottles to mix it in. A variety of snacks such as beef Jerky, peanuts, cashews,
canned oysters, etc., make good boat snacks.
Your physician may recommend malaria pills, yellow fever immunization, and
tetanus update. If you have had a yellow fever shot in the last five years,
you will not need another one. Please consult your local health department.

EQUIPMENT, LURE SELECTION & USAGE TECHNIQUES
MAGNUM WOODCHOPPER(MODIFIED)
The Lurh Jensen Magnum Woodchopper equipped with the 4XX strong Mustad hooks
is your best big fish lure because it will hold the mega fish. However, you
will sacrifice numbers of fish if you use this lure exclusively. I really think
you will catch 50% to 60% less numbers of fish if you use only this lure. Also,
you almost have to "stand-up fish" to work this lure properly. The
lure should be "ripped" for a distance of 2 feet and create a lot
of noise to be successful. To accomplish this action requires a considerable
amount of force and energy and if you are seated, it is impossible to work
the lure correctly and successfully.
RECOMMENDATIONS
* We recommend the Browning reels because of the drag systems. The Browning
reels that we recommend are the Browning Midas 6 and the Midas 6W. Garcia 5500C
is an excellent reel as well.
* We recommend the 80 lb 100% pure spectra braided Izorline brand line. If
you cannot find the 800 Izorline at your local dealer, other brands recommended
are T.U.F.-Line, Lynch Line and Magic Braid. For information on T.U.F-line
call Ron Totten at 210-659-5268; for the Lynch Line call Terry Oldham at 512-847-2842;
and for Magic Braid call Rob Cooper at 214-358-4941.
* Rods -- Most good medium heavy action (long handle) bass rods 6'6" or
longer will work fine for the big peacock. If you don't have this type rod,
we strongly recommend the All Star SJ2 or All Star MWR2 fishing rods. Fishing
World in Dallas is a dealer or call Don Butler at Okiebug at 918-662-2657.
* Hook Sharpener - The 4X strong mustad hooks really need sharpening and we
highly recommend the Point Maker electric hook sharpener made by Texas Taclde.
You can call them at 214-234-2628.
* Split Ring Pliers -- Be sure to purchase a good heavy duty pair of split
ring pliers. The thin light weight pliers will create lots of problems and
lost time.
* Hook Cutter Pliers -- There is a small pair of pliers that has a side feature
that serves as a hook cutter and will cut off hooks without much pressure.
* Rod Case - Boulder Landing Rod Case is by far the best on the market. Boulder
Landing caters to the traveling fisherman and offers the best protection for
your rod. For more information call 918-455-3474.

FISHING TIPS
Based upon our experience in Peacock bass fishing, we would like to offer a
little advice. By no means is it necessary to purchase all of the lures we
have listed. However, all lures listed will catch fish and each lure has its
own purpose. For instance, those who are mainly interested in catching a record-size
peacock, we recommend the "modified" Big Game Woodchopper. Those
clients mainly interested in numbers and not the Mega-fish should use the 1
oz Jerkin Sam, Rat-L-Trap, Magnum Rapala or Bomber Long A. In fact, the Rat-L-Trap
and Magnum Rapala will catch the huge black piranha (up to 4 1bs). Just a little
tip to help fulfill your fishing expectations.
TROPHIES
If you desire to have a replica made of your trophy catch, please take a tape
measure and digital scales to record the weight and measurements of the fish.
You may call our office in Texas and we will recommend a good taxidermist.
RECOMMENDED TIPPING
The average tip per client, based upon acceptable norms worldwide in the outdoor
world, would be $100 per client for the entire trip. Of course, this tip is
totally dependent upon excellent service and by no means should it be construed
as a mandatory payment. Please do not give tips for poor service. (It defeats
our system) The breakdown of the recommended tip is based upon the following:
Guide $50 'Brazilian Tour Conductor $50
*(This part of tip will be divided among the Boat Captain, Cook, Bartenders
and Tour Conductors) Your American Tour Conductor will assist you with your
tipping.
GUIDE INCENTIVES
The success of your fishing depends largely on the effort of your guide. We
have programs designed with maximum incentives for the guides to produce positive
results for all-of our clients. We want your trip to be fun for you and the
guides. The guides have some experience in handling American fishermen and
are sincerely interested in seeing that you catch fish and have a good trip.
However, the prospect of earning a tip at the end of your trip also helps to
motivate. Please fill out the fishing report at the end of your trip and grade
each guide on his effort. Guides will be rotated daily.
We also recommend that our clients form a "guides pot" of $2.00 per
day per client. The guide in the boat whose client catches the longest bass
per 1/2 day gets $1 per client as the winning guide. Please take a tape measure
in the boat each day to measure your fish. Don't bring the fish in, but measure
and release. It's an honor system! Two contest per day; $1 for the morning
and $1 for the afternoon. This little contest puts some fun in your fishing
for the guides and we highly recommend it. It's not mandatory! This guide contest
should be handled by the clients and is mentioned here as a recommendation.
New idea!/Great results!
RESERVATIONS & CANCELLATIONS
Bass Adventures will place your reservation on a tentative basis for 5 working
days after receipt of your reservation. Your deposit of 50% of the total cost
of the trip must arrive at our Office on or before the fifth day or the reservation
will be canceled, no exceptions. A deposit Or $500 will suffice if the reservation
is made more than 9 months prior to the trip date, with the balance of deposit
due 9 months from trip date. The total balance of all monies for the trip must
be paid 60 days prior to your trip date.
Since these trips are houseboat excursions, requiring a minimum of 10 clients
for each trip, no monies are refundable for any reason of cancellation, no
exceptions. No credit of a trip may be transferred to another date except,
that with adequate time, a replacement client will be allowed to take the canceling
client's place on the reserved date. If we are able to fill the canceling spot
and the trip fills, then all monies will be returned to canceling client.
This cancellation policy is rather "strong" by outdoor norms. However,
it is absolutely necessary under the circumstances to insure that all clients
will have a good opportunity to plan and execute their trip on the scheduled
date without fear of trip cancellation for lack of the minimum number of clients
required.
The payment of deposit is the client's acceptance of the aforementioned conditions
of payment and cancellation policy.
